Preparing English Language Learners for Success

A partnership between San Bernardino schools and California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) GEAR UP selected EduGuide  to equip the district’s high numbers of English Language Learners (ELL) and other low-literacy students to meet rigorous college and career readiness standards.

Reducing negative behaviors

Indian Springs High School Assistant Principal Rose Palomino reported that they’ve seen a 10% reduction in failing grades, discipline issues, and suspensions.

“EduGuide is one tool that we are going to use strategically with our students because we know that it works,” said Palomino.

Positive changes, increased confidence

A post assessment found 94% of students reported EduGuide helped them make positive changes in one or more academic attitudes, behaviors or areas of achievement, including significantly increased confidence in achieving a college or career degree.

Students reported improvements in all subject areas. And the most commonly cited subject was English, likely due to the way EduGuide blends learning key skills with reading and writing exercises. “EduGuide really help me get better in writing,” reported Pedro, a 9th grader at Indian Springs High School.
