NYC Mentoring Matching Grant

The grant equips NYC schools with a top-tier evidence-based peer mentoring program shown to improve attendance, behavior, wellbeing, grades and math scores.

Amount: In-kind grant covers first-year of $5/student fee. Schools cover $2,000 PD and platform license.

Eligibility: NYC schools that serve any secondary grades from 6-12. Schools at all levels can use the program at any time of year, but the grant is specifically designed to help schools grow model communities in the secondary grades, so it only covers the student fee in grades 6-12. District staff can recommend up to 3 schools per district to be prioritized for the grant.

Requirements:

  1. 1/week for 15 minutes, students schoolwide do a self-guided online EduGuide warmup writing activity in an English, advisory or other class. In each activity, students learn 1 EduGuide skill, about how to help others overcome obstacles in learning and life. Then students choose how they can help someone that week with what they learned. The next week, students report on what they're doing as EduGuides to help each other. Within weeks, students begin contributing what will become thousands of hours of peer support -- almost like having an extra counselor. And within months, staff and students are reporting higher levels of engagement and learning -- leading researchers to select EduGuide for their top-tier of evidence-based programs.

  2. 3/year the principal and one or more staff do a brief virtual check-in with your EduGuide Results Coach on strategies to continue to grow a stronger school community.

Reporting: During a meeting, we will help you generate a simple report with your EduGuide data for you to share with your district and regional peers.

Application: Schools can sign up in 5 minutes using the form on this page. After a few brief questions you'll be asked to schedule a time for the principal to meet virtually with EduGuide to ensure fit for both of us and commitment to meeting the simple requirements listed above. EduGuide will select schools on a first come basis, so please submit as soon as possible to start the process.
