How can i make new friends at a new school?

I just went to a new school where everyone already seemed to know each other. What would be the best and easiest way to make new friends?

Question applies to ages: 12, 13, 14, 15

avatarItzel Try to compliment anyone that seems nice or your kind of type of friend or ask to sit right next to them and see what both of you have in common then they might show you their other friends and you'll start making more but don't give in to peer pressure that never works.

References:
a 12 year old girl is new to this school tries to sit next to this nice girl and starts trying to find out what they have in common and then finds out that they are good at math then later the girl's new found friend shows her the rest of her friendswho show her even more friends later you'll have many but don't forget the old friends.

avatarDaniel FSA Our staff just had a moment to talk about just this. It seems that technology has changed things somewhat, but the desire to be a part of something will not.

1. Make yourself available. (unplug the ipod and xbox360 for a few minutes - that comment was for me more than anyone else)
2. Think about the kind of friends you want, then make sure that you are that to someone else.
3. Listen more than you speak when appropriate.
4. Be yourself - don't modify behavior for a specific group. Knowing who you are as a person can have a significant impact on the people you have lasting relationships with.
5. Understand that people are worth investing in. A world full of people waiting to be noticed may need to see that they have something to offer someone else.

All of these hinge on the fact that decent relationships take time and patients. Don't give up!

avatarElissa My advice to you would be to always keep a smile on your face and talk to people, definitely don't just sit in your own corner and stay to your self it does not help in the long run. Trust me on this, in 7th grade I moved half way across the country and I was very nervous about the whole friend thing, but it worked out fine. I am sure it will for you if you talk with people and always be a friendly person.

avatarTeariea I had the same problem. Both of my friends went to a different high school. So at my school I just went up to people and started talking. Told them about my situation, and problem. Some people were cool and others were not but in the end , now i have lots of people to talk to and im friends with a bunch of people.

avatar Anonymous Well for me, getting to know new people was never easy. The first step I take in getting to know someone is by being nice . Then, introduce yourself to them and ask them to introduce you to some people they know. The only rule in doing this is to not seem too desperate.
