Is it proper to have multiple parties for a toddler?

we are going out of town due to my injury. I would like to have a party before we leave, but her grandparents would like to have one as well.

If you and the grandparents are inviting totally different people, two parties seems fine. But if it's mostly the same people, consolidate your efforts! People are not going to want to come to two parties for a toddler and in this economy, can't afford to buy two gifts!
