- Make an appointment to meet and talk.
- If you know others who feel the way you do, consider going to the teacher together.
- Think through what you want to say before you go into your meeting with the teacher.
- Choose your words carefully for the most productive parent-teacher communication.
- Don’t expect the teacher to do all of the work or come up with all of the answers.
- Be diplomatic, tactful, and respectful.
- Focus on what you need, not on what you think the teacher is doing wrong.
- Don’t forget to listen.
- Bring your sense of humor.
- If your meeting isn’t the success you hoped it would be, move up a level and try talking to the principal. Follow steps 1-10 again. Keep moving up until you get some answers.
