Parent Involvement in Education: Ask Teachers to Use Diversity/Social Strategies

Ask school leaders to make sure all teachers:

  • Understand the impact of prejudice, bias and stereotyping
  • Realize that unspoken prejudices are often demonstrated non-verbally
  • Receive ongoing feedback and learn ways to eliminate behaviors that damage students
  • Learn cultural traditions and practices, and identify individual learning styles strategies
  • Use the talents and strengths of all students to expand their learning and achievement while teaching character
  • Make the most of the social strategies and skills that children typically bring to the classroom and allow time and opportunity for all students to participate
  • Look for ways to boost the participation of minorities, girls and students with disabilities in the classroom
