Don't ever think that as a parent there is nothing you can do to help your child get the best education she can. Parent involvement in schools is one of the most important factors for student success. Here is a list of thiings that will help make your child's education as productive as possible.
- Get involved and stay committed. If you are willing to give more, you will get more. Involved parents are “empowered” parents who often shape school direction.
- Make your presence felt. Attend parent-teacher conferences, sporting events and concerts. Be available and responsive to teacher requests. Parent-teacher communication is a must.
- Build a rapport with the principal. She needs to see you as a valuable part of the school community. Show your concern by offering to lend a helping hand whenever you can.
- Choose your battles carefully. Don’t make an issue out of everything. When you must confront, express your concerns clearly, keep an open mind, and be courteous.
- Be positive. Offer encouragement by noticing when things are going right. Your positive attitude will lift school spirits and establish you as a team player.
