Our school weighs both on a combined point scale. They are treated somewhat equally. You get so many points for your ACT standings as well as so many points for GPA. Those two numbers line up in a bracket to award your honors scholarship.

This is how our school decided to issue our award. Other institutions may have different policies when addressing this scholarship.

On a side note, both are quite important when it comes to acceptance to our college as well.

I'm not exactly sure what universities actually do, and for that you may have to ask your high school counselor, but the research I did online said that your ACT score and your GPA should be weighed equally. If colleges do this, they have a better chance of predicting if you will complete college with a good GPA. Here is the report I got this information from.

It really depends on the scholarship. Some will weigh the two equally, while others will focus on one or the other. My recommendation is that you focus on a strong academic schedule and doing well in those classes. This will improve your grades while also preparing your for any ACT tests you still plan to take.
