They say that the best exercise is the one you are most willing to do--and this is true with reading as well.
When you are trying to improve your reading (which is a kind of mental exercise) the best books to read are the books that interest you. They don't have to be "great literature," they just have to grab your attention.
If you love horses or fashion or race cars or jokes, read books about those subjects. When you have an interest in a subject, you are likely to have lots of knowledge about it, and this will help you with words that might otherwise be hard.
I struggled with reading as a kid, so our school librarian found every horse book in our library and gave it to me. Before I knew it, I had learned to love reading for the sake of reading.
It's really cool that you are working at becoming a better reader--it's the most important thing you can do for your future.
