Is My Child Thinking of Suicide?

If your child has attempted suicide before and is threatening suicide now, don’t take this quiz. Remove weapons from your house and get help from a doctor or mental health professional immediately. You can call 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255), the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a free twenty-four hour hotline, for advice.
If your child is not in immediate danger, answer these questions to identify suicide warning signs.

1) Does your teen seem extremely sad, or depressed? Has he or she withdrawn from friends and family or lost interest in activities that used to be fun?

2) Has your child been physically violent or run away from home?

3) Is your teen self-destructive (cutting, abusing drugs or alcohol, or driving recklessly)?

4) Have your child’s sleeping patterns changed dramatically? Is he or she neglecting personal appearance or hygiene?
