avatarAnonymous Since this question is geared toward 7-year-olds, I'm going to assume that is the age of your son. With that being said, I'm wondering what kind of notes a 7-year-old could possibly have to take. Most kids are still spelling phonetically at that age. I also know that students who do not finish their work during the allotted time are usually allowed to stay in during recess and work on it.

Writing is one of those things where the more you do it, the better you become at it. Encourage him to keep a journal or write you daily letters. Then you can sit down with him and talk about what he can do to improve certain aspects of his writing. Also, the more he reads, the better he will become at putting words down on paper. Read with him and encourage him to write and he'll be faster in no time. Remember, he hasn't been at it for all that long, so be patient with him.
