Our fifth grade son loses focus easily what can we do?

he does well in school but is distracted easily . for instance he will put somthing down or move something and not remember were it is , or be sent on a task and forget to do half of it and end up doing somthing else or be driving down a road we use all the time and not recognize were he is. how do we help with this lack of focus?

I was discussing this question with another parent who also has a fifth-grader (as do I) and we are of the opinion that perhaps this isn't just a "focusing" issue. To both of us, it sounds a bit more serious than that. Has your son ever been tested for any learning disabilities? Have you spoken to your child's teacher and school counselor? Have you ever mentioned these issues to your son's pediatrician?

My guess is that without more serious attention, these issues are going to get worse as your child matures and then moves into middle school. You need to do everything in your power to get him the help he needs now. I would start by asking his teacher what she suggests. Good luck.
