would leaning to the right side while eating increase the risk of choking

does the trachea/larynx tend slightly to the right of the oessphagus
or
is there any other reason that choking is more risky while leaning to the right. (eg perhaps the difference in the slanting of the left bronchus as opposed to the right bronchus could account for this?

also how does the epiglottis open and close?

Thank you for your help

I'm curious about why you're asking this question. I'm not aware of any reason why choking would be more common while leaning to the right than to the left. Sitting up straight would, of course, be the preferred position while eating.

Here's an animated link of how the epiglottis works during swallowing: www.hopkins-gi.org/multimedia/database/intro_250_S
