Supplemental Reading Programs

I am interested in Supplemental Reading Programs THAT WORK. Someone recommended "Reading Companion" that is a web based program available via grant from IBM. Does anyone have any experience with this one or can you recommend something that you know that works. Education Week just posted an article that labels the following Reading Programs as ineffective: Project CRISS, Read About, Read For Real and Read for Knowledge. Any feedback in this area would be appreciated.

Question applies to ages: 5, 6, 7, 18
