Typically, you get a 4-year undergraduate degree first. After that, many universities have a combined program where you go through courses to get both your Master degree and your PhD all under the same program. The ones I know of typically take at least three years for the combined Master and PhD degrees. It really depends on the school and the program they offer. If you do them separately, often it's two years for a Master, and then another 2-3 to finish up a PhD including the research and dissertation.
