My husband yells at me for the way I parent from his spot on the couch?

If I am dealing with my 9 and 11 year old and my husband does not like the manner in which I am doing it he will "scold" me in front of the kids about my parenting skills. However, he sits on the couch and watches TV and does not help solve the problem, or lies in bed while we are trying to leave for school in the mornings.

Question applies to ages: 9, 11

avatarAnonymous I have had similar experiences and my advice to you is let him do the parenting and see if he does any better. Have you ever tried asking him to get up and do the parenting since he obviously thinks he can do a better job than you?

Ask him what actual useful advice he has that might make your job easier. If all he has to say is don't do this and don't do that then tell them that does nothing to help you. If he thinks what you are doing is wrong ask him what he thinks you SHOULD do then.

Tell him that the best way to teach is by modeling and if he wants to set a better example then get up and show the kids how it's done. And as for scolding you in front of the kids, tell him that if he wants to raise his children thinking that disrespecting someone you love is the way to go, then keep up.

Your question is really about your relationship with your husband, not about parenting. You might want to check out a library book or two that would help you and your husband interact in a positive manner.
