What are some good tricks to stop my child from interrupting?

My six-year-old daughter is constantly yelling, "Mom! Mom! Mom!" while I'm attempting to have a conversation with others. What can I do to make her stop?

Question applies to ages: 5, 6, 7

Are you paying enough attention to your daughter on the whole? I've seen this happen with friends who tend to block out their children when other adults are around. Sometimes, giving your child a little bit of attention pays off big. You don't have to stop everything, but if she knows you are present and available to her at any time, she might not be so inclined to interrupt in such a major way.

I agree with Rebecca's advice, too, but I also think children shouldn't be allowed to interrupt unless it's an emergency - someone's bleeding or hurt! What I've seen be effective is the mom quietly says, "I'm talking now. You'll have your turn in a minute." And then when there is a natural pause in mom's conversation with the other person, she turns to the child and says, "OK, now it's your turn. What did you want to tell me?"

Ask them to be patient.
