When you travel with infant babies, think of a camel caravan--and yourself as the camel! These little guys need so much stuff, and somebody has to haul it around. You can lighten your load by leaving the toys at home and entertaining your child with something called "face time." Looking at your face, watching your expressions and imitating you is fascinating work for a baby. "Face time" also provides good practice in important communication skills that your child will use throughout life.

What You Need for Simple Infant Activities
Time with your baby

Let's Go!
Sit so you are facing one another. Catch your baby's eye by saying his name softly. Smile and talk or sing to your baby. Make a funny noise by clicking your tongue against your teeth. Whistle softly. Repeat this a few times, always looking directly at your baby's eyes. Then watch to see if your baby tries to copy what you are doing with your face and mouth. If she does, then smile and encourage her by talking and repeating the noise. And congratulate yourself, too. You've helped your baby communicate!
