Question: How will I know when to call in extra help with a tutor or mentor?

Dr. Roth:
Assistance with learning can be handled by parents if short term or not interfering with the parent-child together time. This means that tutoring children doesn’t get in the way of quality time and time to enjoy life as a family. Signs that an outside intervention may be needed are:

  • Your child is struggling with homework, failing tests, avoiding or not finishing assignments, hiding the fact that work is not completed or says, “I am having a hard time,” or “I can’t do this work.”
  • Assessments show that your child has not progressed in the sequential steps to learning.
