Reading together with your kids can be lots of fun, but popular children's books aren't the only options. Sometimes it's neat to find other sources of print that will interest your young one—things such as signs on the street, cereal boxes and simple lists. Here is a toddler craft you can do while going about your family home activities.

Materials

  • A small piece of cardboard or a file card
  • A pen, pencil or marker

Make a List

Before you start a chore around the house, make a short list of tasks involved in the chore. For example, if you are getting ready to fold laundry, make a list of a few items of clothing you will be folding. Show the list to your toddler, reading all the words on the list. Then, as you finish folding the items, help your toddler check off or cross off each item on the list.

You can make the same sort of list for preparing a meal, getting dressed in the morning, and, of course, shopping.
